Susukan PPSU Develops Waste Bank and Composting

The Susukan Urban Village PPSU, Ciracas, East Jakarta continues to innovate in protecting the environment by developing the existence of waste banks and composting.

Every day, we can collect five kilograms of waste comprising glasses, boxes, newspapers, magazines and so on

As conducted by one of PPSU members Wawan (55), every day, he and his colleagues routinely collect non-organic waste to be recycled and resold.

"Every day, we can collect five kilograms of waste comprising glasses, boxes, newspapers, magazines and so on. After that we keep them in the waste bank," he expressed, Friday (11/22).

He cited, the selling price of used glass mineral waste is Rp 5,000 per kg, used plastic mineral bottles Rp 3,500 per kg, mineral water bottle caps Rp 500 per kg, boxes Rp 1,500 per kg and newspapers Rp 500 per kg.

"We use the money for refreshing and for social activities," he explained.

While the compost produced today is only from dried leaves that have been processed and then packaged in 1 kg and is sold for Rp 3,000 per pack.

Nevertheless the compost produced is used more for the plant fertilizers in urban farming land on the urban village office yard and in the Susukan Ceria RPTRA.

Susukan Urban Village Acting Head Putro Teguh Suharyono added he strongly supports this activity carried out by 89 members of PPSU in his region.

"It's okay, as long as they run their duties in protecting the environment to stay clean. So, go ahead," he closed.
